So what does Team BurgieLaw do in their free time? We spy on people and throw wild potato parties! (Ha just kidding. If only we could.) Instead, we spent several weeks observing the road for traffic offenses and also asked our peers, what are the some of the common traffic offenses you’ve encountered?
Malaysian drivers are jokingly (and maybe sometimes, seriously) known as the worst drivers in the world. You’ve probably encountered some terrible drivers yourself! Like the lost auntie who cuts through 3 lanes to turn right at a red traffic light; or that kia su guy in the fancy car at the end of the road who saw you trying to cross the street who accelerates instead of slowing down/waiting the 30 seconds it would take for you to walk across.
(Ed: This used to happen to me a lot when I had to walk to and from college and I lost count of how many times I was almost run over. Some cars literally missed me by mere centimeters.)
Just remember that it doesn’t serve anyone to drive badly. Not only do you endanger your own life, you also endanger the lives of others around you. Safety first! Remember to respect other drivers no matter the size of vehicle and if you’re a motorcyclist, gear up so you’ll be safer than a guinea pig in battle armour:
Next week we’ll help you through the general list of compound fines (summons/saman) & penalties for these common traffic offenses. If you’re really keen, you can visit the JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalanraya) website for more information.
